House System

Viewbank College has four Houses: Hydra (Blue), Ignis (Red), Terra (Green) and Stella (Yellow). All students are placed into a House when they join our community. Our classes at Year 7, 8 & 9 are based on Houses, as this forms a smaller House community within the larger school community. Our sporting events (House Athletics & House Swimming) are based in Houses, as well as other House-based co-curricular events.

Our student management system is based on these Houses, with a staff House Leader being assigned to each year level & House. Our House Leaders are the first contact point for our students who need any questions answered and for our parents/carers who need to contact the school. Our House Leaders look after the whole student, with wellbeing, social, academic and behavioural support put in place.

Please find more information about our Houses below.

Values: Ambitious, Strong & Wise

Ambition is the strong desire to achieve something. Strength is the capacity of an object or substance to withstand great force or pressure. Wisdom is the quality of having experience, knowledge, and good judgement.

The Terra House Award honours those who have been ambitious, strong, and wise. These students have set high goals, demonstrated remarkable fortitude, and share their knowledge generously, contributing to a foundation of excellence and growth.

Values: Courageous, Dependable & Curious

The Griffin is a legendary creature with a body, tail and back legs of a lion, the head, talon and wings of an Eagle. As it combines the power and majesty of both an Eagle and Lion it was thought to be a very special creature. Representing far North, this ancient creature watches over the green and gold inherent in the forests.

The Stella House Award is given to those who are courageous, dependable, and curious. These individuals have ventured beyond the ordinary, steadfastly supporting their peers while exploring new horizons with a fearless spirit and an insatiable thirst for knowledge.

Values: Passionate, Determined & Encouraging

Phoenix symbolizes rebirth, new starts as well as eternity and strength. They live for 500 years before rebirth and are associated with the sun. Phoenix’s are reborn from the ashes and flames which signifies a journey through fire or adversity. Known for grace, reliability and kindness.

The Ignis House Award is presented to those who have been passionate, determined, and encouraging. These individuals have ignited a flame of inspiration within our community, driving themselves and others to achieve greatness with passion and support.

Values: Powerful, Resilient & Compassionate

The Capricorn is a legendary aquatic animal described as a creature that is half goat and half fish. There appears to be a connection between traditional characteristics of Capricorn as a sea goat and the Sumerian god of wisdom and waters, Enki, who also had the upper body of a goat and the lower body and tail of a fish.  They are known for intelligence, creation, crafts; magic; water, seawater and lake water

The Hydra House Award celebrates those who have embodied the powerful, resilient, and compassionate spirit that defines Hydra. These students have shown that true power lies not just in strength, but in the ability to rise above challenges and support others with kindness.
