At Viewbank College, we believe in creating a community where every young person feels safe, respected and supported to thrive. As part of this commitment, we proudly embrace Disability Inclusion—the Victorian Department of Education’s new model that strengthens our ability to meet the diverse needs of all learners.
Disability Inclusion replaces the former Program for Students with Disabilities (PSD) and offers a more compassionate, fair and student-centred approach. It aligns with our values of respect, integrity and inclusion, and supports our shared belief that every student deserves the opportunity to belong, participate and achieve their personal best.
Disability & Inclusion Team
What Is Disability Inclusion?
Disability Inclusion is a whole-school framework that helps us better understand each student as an individual.
It focuses on functional needs rather than labels or diagnoses and encourages us to consider how we can adjust learning environments, teaching approaches and wellbeing supports so that every student can engage meaningfully in their education.
It reinforces our commitment to creating a college community where diversity is recognised as a strength and where all students are treated with dignity, kindness and care.
How Disability Inclusion Supports Students
Disability Inclusion provides support across three levels:
Tier 1 – Universal Inclusive Practice
The foundation for all students.
We commit to providing welcoming classrooms, differentiated teaching, inclusive practices, and a positive culture where respect and safety are at the centre of learning.
Tier 2 – Targeted School-Level Support
Additional funding for the whole school to build staff capability, create evidence-based programs, and strengthen small-group and wellbeing supports.
This helps us respond early, fairly and consistently to students who may need extra assistance.
Tier 3 – Individual Disability Funding
Personalised funding for students with significant and complex needs.
Eligibility is based on the Disability Inclusion Profile, a supportive, strengths-focused process involving families, teachers, wellbeing staff and an independent facilitator.
The Disability Inclusion Profile
The Disability Inclusion Profile is a collaborative and respectful conversation about a student’s strengths, functional needs and the adjustments that help them learn.
At its heart, the profile honours the student’s lived experience and ensures that their voice—and the voice of their family—is heard, valued and central to planning.
The outcomes guide teaching and wellbeing supports and may lead to Tier 3 Individual Disability Funding.
